2010 HAI Europe Association Essay Writing Competition

We are pleased to announce that Ms Fiona Rae has been selected as the winner of the HAI Europe Association Essay Writing Competition 2010.  Her winning essay can be read here.

This competition was open to all those resident in the European region who are in, or have completed, full time education in the last eight years. Contestants were invited to write a 1500-2000 word essay on one of the three pillars of HAI work.

Ms Rae is a medical student at the University of Edinburgh and came to the HAI Europe Association Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Amsterdam in October to present her essay “Intellectual Property Rights versus the Right to Access Essential Medicines: Why do patents still pose a threat to drug access after the Doha Declaration ?”. The presentation she gave at the AGM can be accessed here.

The entries received were of high quality but the contest judges were especially impressed by the depth and scope of Ms Rae’s analysis.
